Bacterial Growth Media

Ecolyse offers a variety of specialized bacterial media for the Oil & Gas industry. Ecolyse media is manufactured in accordance with NACE, ICorrST and API recommendations. Our media and media kits will allow you to effectively determine the presence of microorganisms that may present a risk for microbial influenced corrosion (MIC) in oilfield and other industrial process water and cooling systems.


MPB - Modified Postgates B Broth
  • For the enumeration of Sulfate Reducing Bacteria (SRB)
  • Suitable for microbial monitoring in oilfields to NACE Standard TMO194-04
PRD - Phenol Red Dextrose
  • For the enumeration of Acid Producing Heterotrophic Bacteria (APB)
  • Suitable for microbial monitoring in oilfields to NACE Standard TMO194-04
NRB - Nitrate Reducing Bacteria Broth
  • For the enumeration of Nitrate Reducing Bacteria (NRB)
IRB - Iron Reducing Bacteria Broth
  • For the enumeration of Iron Reducing Bacteria (IRB)
STS - Sodium Thiosulfate Solution
  • For the enumeration of Thiosulfate Reducing Bacteria (TRB)

Media sold by the box of 12 media bottles, by case of 15 boxes of prepared media kits or flats of 288 bottles for MPN method or Serial Dilution.


Field CombiKit

Ecolyse also provides a quick Field CombiKit for enumeration of SRB and APB. Each CombiKit includes MPB and PRD media (other combinations available upon request) and all the necessary materials for field enumeration (syringes, needles, diluent, alcohol pd, tongue depressor and instructions).



Salinity Formulations

Growth media may be made to one of four standard formulations to suit the salinity of your specific system investigation:
  • Freshwater (1%)
  • Seawater (2.5%)
  • Produced Water (6%)
  • Brine (10%)
